The classic pear lead will cast a very long way, almost as far as the Distance Casting, and it is less affected by crosswinds due to its shape and weight distribution. This means that the Pear lead is suited to most carp fishing situations, fishing at any range up to the very limit of your casting ability. The ‘pear’ shape can be used to your advantage – it will plug into silt, thus giving more of a bolt effect than would usually be achieved with lighter leads, and the rounded end makes it great for feeling the drop and determining what type of lake bed it has landed on.
